Good review. Thank you. Questions: do you recommend this computer with 512 SSD or 1T? How is your experience with the MacBook pro 15"?

Hi @GregsGadgets
I enjoy watching your channel,
I plan to buy a new computer in the coming days.
Because mine is already pretty worn out.

I mostly need a video and photo editing computer.
I shoot on a Sony camera a6300 videos, 4k videos.
I am currently using macbook pro 2015.
And impossible to use. Or try to edit videos.

I wanted to ask you, what do you recommend for editing videos and photos?
$ 2400
15-inch MacBook Pro
16GB 2400MHz DDR4 memory
Radeon Pro 555X with 4GB of GDDR5 memory
256GB SSD storage

$ 2800
15-inch MacBook Pro 2019
2.3GHz 8-core 9th-generation Intel Core i9 processor,
16GB 2400MHz DDR4 memory
Radeon Pro 560X with 4GB of GDDR5 memory
512GB SSD storage

Maybe older macbook version?

Thank you so much and thank you for the videos you upload

I love your videos, they will help me to make my choice ! I'm gonna buy the 8 core with 32gb, 1 Tb and Vega 20 . so far I have a 2013 Macbook Pro ....

Eh, I feel like the next version is going to have its own set of issues. At least this version has been refined.

Great video bro thanks alottt

A great machine, and great 2K color screen.
Most of all it needs a fast sd card slot, dual upgradeable ssds, dual upgradeable to 128GB memory slots.

I am hoping apple finally catches up and offers OLED< HDR, 4K, and touch options in the future.
As every other major professional laptop maker.
Synthetic bechmarks are great for fast readings, but for sustained workflows those numbers will not be anywear near that because of thermal throttling.
I wish geekbench nand others would also contain a sustained workload benchmark to give consumers a more complete picture of a devices performance.

Comment from : Tigerex966

USB 3 A ports are not legacy ports, they are just as current as usbc ports, and will soon be capable of 20Gbps.
SD card slots are not legacy ports, they have recently had a jump in speed, and still included in new and upcoming cameras, and other recent and upcoming devices.
Please do not spread this rumor.

How many common apps/programs can you keep running at the same time before it starts warming up? Like Chrome, Spotify, email, etc.. I just ordered this one but I'm worried about the overheating :S I'll use it for browsing, playing music and answering emails.

It's said that Apple has tuned down the maximum voltage of CPUs in 2019, performance is the trade off.
BTW, have you ever experienced any T2 crashes?

Yoongi WHO?
Rn I’m contemplating on whether or not I should get the 13 inch bc it’s cheaper for my parents or the 15 inch just bc I want a bigger screen, but gosh! The “bezels” (idk if that’s the right terminology) are so big and the keyboard looks so small it almost looks out dated so it makes the 13 inch look prettier but the 15 inch though, ugh so big and beautiful 😭😫

Considering selling my current 15” 2015 MacBook Pro which was the higher end model with no extra upgrades, and wanted to get this exact model you’re reviewing, as it’s about my price point for a new laptop. With the rumored 16” MacBook Pro, what are your thoughts in getting this 15” right now in my situation. I most likely won’t buy the 16” as I’m expecting it to be at least $3k. But do you think that launch will lower the prices of the current MacBook pros? Let me know your thoughts and great video! :)

If you think about it it is kind of the shape (when it’s closed) of the iPad Pro.

Hi, Great video. Would you be able to make a video or run some tests for MATLAB. If you could run parallel for loop continuously to check for thermal throttling.
Comment from : Arun Chandrashaker

Hi,you mentioned the heat, but isn't the 2019 model cooler and quieter than the 2018? It is really important for me to know! I'm unhappy with my 2018 becouse of the noise and the heat. Thank you in advance :)

I bought the 2018 i9 w/ 560X then 2 months later they came out with the Vega 20. I'm a pro video producer so the Vega 20 is a big deal, so I sold my 2018 taking about $1000 hit and bought the 2019 2.4Ghz 8-core w/ Vega 20 and it is MUCH Faster for exports and overall smoothness. It does also seem to run a bit cooler where the fans don't spin up as much. Today is the last day I can return it for a full refund so I too was going through that thought process of do I return it and wait for whatever comes next... Well here's the deal, that becomes an endless cycle...there will ALWAYS be faster better computers down the pike, that's how technology works and how they keep us buying stuff. Not to mention I don't want the first generation of a new design!!!! I could justify this one because the graphics are almost 100% faster, the extra cores, and cooler running...those are all things I directly benefit from. My desktop is 2010 12-core 3.46 w/ 64 GB RAM and Radeon 580 graphics, so I could return this laptop and just use that but I've been enjoying the ability to still be able to get work done when not at home, or setting up shop at other offices and getting work done. So I'm thinking I'm going to keep it as if I wait and it doesn't come out in september, has the same chip, blah blah blah, or is a lot more expensive...then I just lost 4 months or more of extra productivity for something that isn't clear 1) when it will truly come out, 2) real world benefits, 3) pricing, 4) if I have to end up buying this same model in Sept or Oct then I pay that premium for something that will be updated again in a couple months... So for me, its a great machine, processors are faster than my 2010, Vega 20 is slower than 580 but fast for a laptop. I'm about to do the Pixlas Mod on my 2010 to add Radeon VII and that'll extend the useful live of that computer and I can decide if the new mac pro is worth it or not...again don't want the first generation... Rather have all or most bugs out. Plus its going to take a while for vendors to make their software support a lot of its extra co-processors and such. Where the 2019 design has been out for a while and is well supported.

I know I’m gonna sound terrible but hear me out
You don’t have to buy their recent or best hardware to enjoy their software
That’s where most non apple user get the “eco system” confused for example

my list

1: iPhone X 256gb ( not current gonna be obsolete by 2 gen this autumn but still a beast why change)

2: MacBook Pro 15” 16gb ram 2014 ( definitely obsolete by today’s standard but even with the intel iris pro graphic this thing is still a beast it runs fifa 18 and 19 at 57 FPS even on battery in windows if I wanna actually game got a PlayStation for that)

3: Apple Watch Series 3 gps only ( perfect no need for cellular it can come in Andy but once I’m a blue moon
Additional Apple Watch unlocks your MacBook just like Touch ID when wrist detection is on and it’s strap to your wrist )

4: Apple Music ( worked with everything above perfectly)

5: 50gb iCloud storage more than enough for app data and backup storage just for £0.75

Never had enough tangible reason to buy this product
EarPods ( actually dislike the design)
iPad. ( useless for me tried it but completely useless it’s a blowout iPhone )

HomePod. ( Hoo boy the worst of em all )

This right here will not give you everything you want but everything you need to enjoy technology for years to come from apple

All 2018, 2019 15 inches MacBook Pro are still thermal throttled on the motherboard. Turn off your air conditioner, keep the air temperature above 30 Celsius, and run some heavy test back to back for at least 20 minutes. For example, check your CPU frequency when running Unigine Heaven benchmark with Extreme settings. It can easily go under the base frequency down to 1.xGhz. Because the CPU and GPU both will NOT run as fast as the Motherboard is too hot and holding back CPU and GPU from running fast. CPU and GPU temperatures will be LOW because of underperforming. The conclusion is that you only can get your test high scores running either CPU Intensive or GPU intensive, not both, under a properly air conditioned environment (below 26 Celsius), where you will have them run faster and hotter. But still you cannot push both of them to their limits at the same time. If you do so, the CPU cannot maintain the base frequency. Funny isn't it? Sadly nobody is making a fuss.
Comment from : Jian Chen

you should bought the vega 20 upgrade

Hi Greg, another great video. I enjoy your videos because you look and sound like you know what you are talking about. The absence of a card reader to me is a good thing, if you ever had to use a tweezer to dig one out of your new lap top you'll know what I mean.Thanks...Frank

My guess is the redesign MBP will be at a significantly higher price point than the current 15. Similar to the 2018 iPad Pro / 2017 iPad Pro
Comment from : Mark Conforti

Great video. Hopefully they have fixed the keyboard problem, but since its under the repair program...fixed or not, they keys are too shallow of travel for many of us.

This sounds like a great deal of the MacBook Pro, I would consider it, but as the rumors are, I want to wait to see if that 16.5 Inch MacBook Pro, with a keyboard redesign and thermal issues. I don't want to buy a MacBook Pro until I see what they have in the future, and I am also considering a future I-Mac, with both maybe having Apple's own ARM chips. I am wondering if the next I-Mac and I-Mac Pro will be similar in size and design as the New 32 inch 6K Display. If they are going to be like 32 inches instead of 27, that would give them more room for two cooling fans and a ram door in the back, for both of them. It would be a very nice looking I-Mac with the bezels being like the new display, and maybe on the back there will be better venting like the new display. This may mean they may have a 6K display as well, and I saw a video of someone's trip to Computex in Asia, (Sara Dietschy's Video) and Intel was there with their 10th Generation, maybe ARM chips, maybe 10th Generation chips. My other desire is an I-Mac and an I-Pad Pro 12.9 with the new I-Pad OS, I could use the I-Pad on the go, and hook it up to the I-Mac and work on the Adobe apps when the new OS come out. As far as the Keyboard issue, it may be too soon to tell, and that said Apple maybe thinking that too, so they include it in the warranty program.

Anyway, I would consider that desk that can go various heights, and programed settings so you choose the setting you want. If you want to sit down, a setting for that, and after awhile you want to stand up, you can push the setting for that as well. This would be great for college dorms. It seems pretty roomy as well. I like the flexibility of sitting down or standing up.

Comment from : Technical Master Atharva

Admire your honesty that despite you said this was the best MacBook Pro you ever used, it still had some flaws.

But there is something that confuses me in recent times. In the past, it was said tablets didn’t need fans because they aren’t as powerful as laptops / don’t require as much energy.
However in more recent years, phones and tablets have been shown to have better power / tech than most laptops. And they don’t need fans.

So why do laptops still need fans in this scenario?
